     One Day. . .

Molière . . .

What's your one day? This summer (2026), I stood briefly near my "one day." I was to produce Molière's The Misanthrope. We were so close. We found the cast, the crew, the venue, had Geoffrey Owens come to Maryland three times to work with the actors! We purchased a website (click on "vision").

One month from opening night, it unraveled.

Despite all that, one day. . .

Why?

Compelled. . .

In the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, there is a concept in the pages that's rather powerful. The author believes that ideas and inspirations are not ours, but that they're independent. They travel from person to person, looking for the perfect host, the person who will animate them. In short, good ideas don't belong to us. We are obligated to do something with them, to birth them. If we don't, they will go to someone else who will.

I don't know why I feel compelled to produce a Molière play--or two. It is just in me. Perhaps because Molière writes well. Perhaps it's because I was kind-of tricked into learning French. Perhaps because I don't get tired of reading his plays. Perhaps for the same reason I am a teacher; when I find something amazing (like new knowledge), I want to share it. Molière's writing is delicious. Or, maybe it's that the idea is looking for a someone to breathe life into it, to actualize it. Or, maybe I'm simply compelled. I don't know, but one day,  I will bring this idea to life!
